My first week of law school is over. I would be lying if I said it wasn’t the longest week of my life. However, I would also be lying if I said it was not exactly what I expected. As of now I feel like law school is going to be pretty much like a job for me. I get to school around 8 every day, leave around 6 or 7, and then take Saturdays off. I don’t know how well this method is going to work for me, but I am going to try it out.

After a week of classes I have come to the conclusion that even though I think that I understand the reading, I don’t understand it at all. The sentences and sections of the cases that I highlight in my book turn out to be almost irrelevant in class. In Civil Procedure, for example, the professor will ask a question and I couldn’t even guess the answer. Usually the same 2 or 3 people raise their hands and explain the interpretation that they came up with from the reading. After listening to them a voice in my head is saying “You got THAT from the reading? Did we read the same thing?” I have been told that this will pass but it seems to be passing sooner for everyone else.

I have to say that I have not been overly nervous  or intimidated in any of my classes…with the exception of Legal Writing. I have a feeling that that particular class and I are going to have a very volatile relationship. Other than that, I can say that my first week as a 1L has been long, yet interesting.
