A Troubling Article…

posted by Grant

The Law Street Journal exists for several reasons, but perhaps the overarching aim is to present all aspects of law school and real life during law school from a realistic perspective.  In a time like this, where we've seen the economy hit near-rock bottom and the legal job market all but dry up, it is easy to become very negative.  Of course, I have written my fair share of articles after becoming discouraged with the legal profession's unwillingness to adapt to the current climate.

If you went to law school because you wanted a big firm job and a big firm salary, you're probably just as discouraged as I have been at times.  While those opportunities aren't non-existent, they are certainly few and far between.  So if that was your sole reason for attending law school, maybe you've got some tough decisions to make.  You can read this article to find some perspectives on why law school may not be the best decision for you.  If you're already in law school, maybe it isn't too late to consider some other options.

However, for those of you who did not go to law school just because you wanted to be earning $100k salary from your first real job, do NOT read that article.  You're in the right place.  Whether you are in law school because you want to help those who cannot help themselves, or because you want to become a legislator, or because you just genuinely enjoy learning about the law, you shouldn't be too worried about all those books, articles, and blogs out there telling you the only thing you're gaining from law school is a huge debt load.
