The Beef with Taco Bell: LSJ’s Take on the News
The Taco Bell Beef lawsuit is heating up. In case you haven’t heard, you can read about the lawsuit here. Basically, a class action was filed against the fast-food chain alleging that the beef served in the tacos is actually only 30% beef and that the chain is misleading its customers.
I have several general observations about this lawsuit and the ensuing media battle. 1) It’s Taco Bell, people. You’re not eating at a Ruth’s Chris or even a Texas Roadhouse, so what do you expect? There is a reason that burrito only costs 99 cents, and I doubt it’s because Taco Bell got a great deal on the beef; 2) Does the general public even care? Honestly, if Food Inc. didn’t put McDonald’s out of business, then this pesky little class action clearly doesn’t know what it’s up against. The point is that people who care about eating good quality meat products probably aren’t stopping by a T-Bell on the way home from work for a Mexi-Melt; 3) Taco Bell took out full page ads in several major U.S. newspapers that started with this line, “Thank you for suing us…” I don’t really have much commentary about that point, I just found it humorous; 4) In addition to the full-page ads, Taco Bell has made a YouTube video with its President denouncing the lawsuit. This video was posted to Taco Bell’s YouTube channel. Taco Bell has a YouTube channel? Who knew; and finally 5) Taco Bell’s President appears in the video and does a great job of addressing the issues and laying out the facts. My only problem is that the guy is Australian. Wow, I did not see that coming. I mean come on, Taco Bell is an American institution. Do Australians even eat Taco Bell?
We’ll have to watch and see what happens, but my guess is that nothing will change. Taco Bell will continue to serve cheap, questionable fast food as they always have, and this lawsuit will probably fade into oblivion.

Late Grades: One of the Most Infuriating Parts of Law School
Maybe my irritation with the delay in posting grades stems from the bitterness that has grown from three years of never knowing where I stand in law school or the job market, but for some reason I can’t get over the irony that as law students we are constantly lectured about the importance of making deadlines and being on time, yet the majority of professors … continue
